I don't know about catsup, Jonathan.
But I do remember several years ago that there was great public outrage when revised food production rules went into effect and someone found that in cooked canned and bottled fruits and vegetable, no more than 10 insect parts per container would be permitted.

I think it turned out that the previous rules had allowed 12 (or something like that).

>Catsup? What could be bad about how that is made? Would you care to elaborate (at the risk of me being turned off of it)?

>>>I agree entirely. Sounds like a good solution. The Jungle was required reading when I was in high school, but I don't believe it is anylonger. I had an uncle that worked for Oscar Meyer in Wisconsin when I was in high school and his impression was that while some had changed, the majority of the methods were still not that much different (hopefully it is better now). I have not eaten bologna or hot dogs since.

>>The expression “ignorance is blsis” is so true. A friend of mine worked for Del Monte during the summers while attending college. He worked on the Catsup line and told me, “If you knew how Catsup was made you would not eat it”! Well, I found out and since then (30 years ago) I have not gone near the stuff! :)
