Jonathan;

If you insist, here is what I was told. The Catsup line is a long conveyor belt about 36” wide and moves rather rapidly. The tomatoes that are chosen for the Catsup are not suitable for sale as they are “past ripe”. Many people work on the line to remove “undesirable objects”. The motion of the conveyor belt causes a number of people to vomit and it is not unusual for people to get sick on the “past ripe” tomatoes. Production must go on and so it does.

Granted this was 30 years ago but I still do not use Catsup! :)

>Catsup? What could be bad about how that is made? Would you care to elaborate (at the risk of me being turned off of it)?

>>>I agree entirely. Sounds like a good solution. The Jungle was required reading when I was in high school, but I don't believe it is anylonger. I had an uncle that worked for Oscar Meyer in Wisconsin when I was in high school and his impression was that while some had changed, the majority of the methods were still not that much different (hopefully it is better now). I have not eaten bologna or hot dogs since.

>>The expression “ignorance is blsis” is so true. A friend of mine worked for Del Monte during the summers while attending college. He worked on the Catsup line and told me, “If you knew how Catsup was made you would not eat it”! Well, I found out and since then (30 years ago) I have not gone near the stuff! :)
