Hi Evan,
Are you sure they're ACTUALLY loosing that money or they're referring to money they are NOT MAKING as a loss?
In our industry it's common to refer to unrealized profits as downright losses.
This came to my attention a few years back in the light of Kevin Mitnik's case, where some company stated that he had caused I don't know how much in losses and the argument of those on Kevin's side was that if there was a loss, how come it never showed up in share holders' reports?
Re. Sun's fading, I agree to some extent. The workstation is no longer the tool of choice for most apps it used to be. In academia, however, where they tinker with languages, technologies, and toys ten years ahead of OUR time, I think it's still used.
Have fun!
Alex
>There has been some interesting articles on Sun recently. Java, cheap unix with Solaris and the Sun workstations were disruptive technologies when then arrived. Does Sun make money off Java? Cheaper Linux with cheaper intel hardware is making a big dent in Solaris Unix. Sun workstations aren't used much at all. Sun is losing 2 billion per year.
