Many of the features of .NET have been submitted to standards bodies and accepted as such. I have read reports of .NET running on different versions of Unix and Linux.
>It seems to me that MS is ignoring a large potential market by not having Linux compatible products. I realize that the Linux desktop only has 2-3% of the market share in desktops, but unix/linux has the majority (I think) of server installs.

>Also if desktop percentages grow, why not Linux office, linux .net and linux vfp. Even though prices for linux office type product are ridiculously cheap, sooner or later companies will have to make money to stay in a market. There will be a shakeout and the few remaining big players will be able to raise prices for applications that people need. (plus MS doesn't need to be profitable in certain strategic area for a while)
