I've gone through the archives, and it appears that the answer has been to make sure the ocx is properly registered. His is. I've registered it myself on his pc 4 times now. I also tried unregistering it, renaming it, copying the one over from my pc (where the app works), and re-registering it. No change.

Does anyone have an idea what else might be causing this error? The ocx is registered and it is not corrupt.

Are you sure it's the mscomct2.ocx this is causing the problem? AFAIK the 'Invalid Class String' error only occurs if an application is looking for a specific GUID (ie version). Is this the same on both machines ?

FWIW the only time I've seen this is when using VFP's XML functions with the wrong MSXML versions.
