Conceptually, Fox has this strange thing called a phantom record at the end of a table, which dates back to version 1 of dBase II, when much of the use of the product was interactive. (There is no phantom record at the top of the table.) You can't do anything with this phantom record, but its existence prevents a lot of error conditions, or did 20 years ago. To someone coming from another data tool, or just starting, it's a bit strange.
