So basically you are saying that 11 USD per hour for a short-term contract with no benefits is acceptable. And that both the current economic client and the possibility of war can justify this position.

Luis Guzman is looking to fulfill a temporary demand using contract staff. Ordinarily most people seek job security. Surrendering all job security and benefits, and accept in advance a job of finite length is usually rewarded with an hourly rate that exceeds those of equivalent permanent staff. In my experience this has been the case for both junior and senior positions.

When one considers the peripatetic nature of contracting and the fact that most contractors have expenses in excess of those incurred by permanent staff (e.g. longer travel distances combined perhaps with accommodation costs) then I can only conclude that Luis Guzman’s derisory offer is an insult to our profession.
