>>I have a library of function for formatting in ASP, VB Script. Maybe if you tell me exactly what you are looking for, I would be able to see if I have one that does that. I have found that I had to reinvent the wheel at several occasions with ASP, VB Script for padding and formatting numbers for example. Yup, we were far from VFP at that point.

>>Well, basically, you should reinvent what I just did in VFP. :) For such functionalities, I would definitely suggest you just instantiate an object done in VFP or VB, for example, from your ASP page. Then, call methods in hit for delivering specific formatted text.

I'm on the trial period, may be he wants me to design everything on my own and find out, how good can I be. May be he also has prejustice (? what's the right word here?) against me and doesn't want to give away his codes. I don't know, but from my point of view it would be much easier, if I would pick up the existing code and modify to suit my needs.

Nadya;

The following is my opinion, as I do not know all the facts. I could be entirely incorrect about my feelings on this issue but I have seen a good deal in my working career.

I do not know if you are working at the same place or not? Do you have a new manager? From your post I get a bad feeling. If I were a manager I would hire someone with the skills required or train them. You have picked up a lot of knowledge about ASP in a short period of time. For that you should be congratulated! One thing a manager should do is to complement, guide and mentor any employee. Managers are there to insure you have the tools to do the job. Tools may include training, hardware, software, and a proper working environment.

If your manager wants the company, himself and you to be a success, he would not act as he is. When a manager wants to get rid of someone they will give him or her something impossible to accomplish and “let them figure it out”. That way they have justification that you cannot do the job.

By the way I have been a manager but I prefer to be a developer. There are more Indians than there are Chiefs! :)

You can work for the worst company in the world and have a great manager. In this case you will be shielded from the negative things from your company. You can work for the best company in the world and have a terrible manager. Should this be the case you may as well be in Hell.

Some people should not manage others as they cannot manage themselves. Trained managers in this country are rare and this is one of the biggest problems our business world has. Unskilled managers do not know how to relate to people or business.
