You have several options. You can:

Search by message (sixth button from left - "Search the messages area...".

Search by Member (seventh button from left). For your own messages, just click on the second button ("View what other members see when they click on your name". Next, click on "Messages".

Note: there is a forum "Chatter", category "Universal Thread related messages", for this kind of questions.
