Oops, really a .manifest file doesn't help with ActiveX controls, sorry. I am using my own controls (a set of wrappers for windows common controls, it is not ActiveX) and all worked fine with .manifest file, controls are "themed". You may download my library here (Easy: Windows Common Controls File #9345) if you want.
