Thanks for reply. This query is just one example of a lot of code that is currently broken. I am hoping I can avoid rewriting a lot of what used to be working code. If I have to rewrite, I will be looking for strategies that my network and dba people can't break. Your comment opened my eyes that maybe XML might be a good defensive coding technique. I haven't given up on my existing code yet.
