>California Wine is world famous especially from the Napa Valley. Yesterday on television a local channel did a bit about wine from British Columbia. They said that the wine was good and getting better. Perhaps Fidel wanted to take home a few bottles? :)
I drink BC wine almost exclusively. The reasons are a mix of provincial pride and an attempt to narrow the field of choice so that I can suss out my likes and dislikes.
BC wine has a long way to go, but the growers are finally trying to work with the relatively cool climate instead of fight it. While I prefer reds, the BC climate is much better for whites. In the last two decades, the growers have pulled out poor quality french vines and started to use German types. There were governmental incentives to do this.
BC is also getting into late harvest and ice wines. Apparently ice wine is risky since it can damage the vines if done incorrectly, but I think (I could be wrong) this is where much of the international accliam is coming from.
