I have an application that utilizes IIS 4 on a Windows NT 4 server. I want to move this application to a new Windows 2000 Advanced Server running IIS 5. The problem is that after I move the application and database I want the new hardware to have the same computer name and IP as the original (the old server will be recycled and is not of concern). I realize I can change it afterwards by removing the registration through server manager but I remember us having problems before by simply changing the computer name. Can anyone suggest a good resource for this type of migration or shed any light as to the dangers of renaming a computer name to a computer name that was already once in existence on the network? Thanks.
