One thing you should do is check the configuration for the FOX DOS application in Windows XP
In the icon that starts your application, right click and choose properties and then the compatibility tab.
Select the compatible with Windows 98 option and then retry your printing.
I have been using this technique for a while on my XP clients with very good results
