I think the best you can do is to set the DE.AutoOpenTables .F. and then call DE.OpenTables() from load after setting up the environment. You have to remember to change the property in the DE when creating a form but everything else can be classed.

Of course VFP8 allows subclassing of the DE - that should give you what you need.
