This is not very helpful, I know, but I had a client who also went from win98 to xp (although he got xp-home) and a Clipper app that I had written for him years ago was extremely fast the first couple of days and then for no reason, became unusable (slow and unstable).

He also has BusinessWorkds (an accounting app) that was also giving us a hard time with dot matrix printers printing in graphic (and very slow) mode only.

We ended up yanking xp out and reinstalling win98.

I also spoke with an IBM rep about a year ago when I was shopping for one of their laptops and he explained to me that if you buy XP you have the right to install windows 2000 instead - check with Microsoft first though). Maybe this is an option if nothing else works.

You may also want to consider posting this question in an XP or DOS related newsgroup.
