The move of the software community will definitely be toward the .NET platforms but until the demand drops extremely for the ActiveX controls their will be software houses making and selling controls.
My company has plans to keep creating and supporting ActiveX technologies for at least the next year. We will be designing and deploying .NET controls also. That way when developers are ready to move to .NET they will be able to work with interfaces that are familiar to them.
