Keep in mind that HL7 as a data-exchange medium is application specific. You need to know the data layout for the HL7 stream that the billing software expects (e.g., which segments, how they are named, which fields are in each segment, and how the fields are ordered). Fortunately, it's a trivial syntax to generate or parse.

Any idea's on where to find the record layout for what an HL7 file contains. I know we would be exporting demographic data. And I did find that it is a comma delimited file.
