It is sad that the people blame the citizens of the U.S. for the actions of our government, but unavoidable I guess. The saddest part is that most U.S. citizens to this day are still ignorant of most of the U.S. government's Latin American policies in the past and the present. If they were more knowledgeable, perhaps some of those destructive policies would change.

I suspect there is a mix of both: justified reasons (like the U.S. secretly assisting the "Plan Cóndor"), and unjustified prejudice (like blaming private citizens, or believing that all "gringos" are rich).
