Somehow I do not agree that, “oil under U.S. soil "belongs to the people of the U.S." There are reserves that belong to the United States Military (said to be the largest in the world, and located in California) but the rest of the oil found here is owned by companies and not the American people. I am sure that any American company would gladly sell its oil rights to any foreign government for the right price.

Look at the Panama Cannel today. Who “owns it”? Not the United States, who build it. It is “owned” by China!
