I was thinking about this further. The behavior is consistent with this scenario (and maybe others), so check for something that moves the record pointer when the field is marked false - even a GO RECNO('MyTable') IN MyTable might trigger the implicit lock to fire. It could be in your checkbox or grid events, in the DBC, etc.
