Is it possible to read a meesages from mail server without using MAPI ?

MAPI requires a MAPI compatible mail program which my customers are not using.

I'm looking for a free code to read messages from a POP3 mailbox.

Is it reasonable to implement POP3 protocol using VFP/MSWINSOCK ActiveX or is some free dll or ocx available for this ?
