There are several issues with importing Excel spreadsheets via DTS. I've been burned enough times that I set a standard of commad delimited or I open the file in excel and save it as a csv file.

If you look on msdn, you'll find several kb articles on it. Basically the excel drivers determine the data type off of the first 8 rows, and if it encounters something differnt afterwards, your results may vary.

I've experienced the exact same thing as you, Nulls in fields that don't have nulls in the excel file, or it throws errors.

You're not alone. I've never found a 100% reliable workaround except to not use excel files.
