No opinions on the difference BUT....

if you go with mysql you need to get in touch with some of the folks on the profox mail group. There are several really knowledgable mysql types there and I believe Paul McNett has some classes for VFP and mysql.

Bob Lee, Bill Sanders, Paul McNett and Ed Leafe and others that hang there are really sold on mysql and would be excellent resources for you. Anyway... just some food for thought.
