>How can one tell if VFP is an Academic Edition or the full commercial license? Thanks.
First off, there is an Academic Price which is what you will pay for VFP (or other software) if you are a qualifying member of a qualifying academic institution. This is the regular full packaged product at a special price. My VFP6 box has a sticker on the outside that says "Academic Price" but otherwise the contents are exactly the same as any other box. That copy of VFP cost about $100 and was purchased through our campus bookstore.
Visual Studio came in an "Academic Edition" which was a "stripped down" edition with limited functionality, suited for computer learning labs.
There is also an "Academic Open License" for certian Microsoft products (not VFP) which is what we here at Duke call a "site license." An example of this is a corporate edition of McAfee Virus Scan that anyone with a Duke IP address can download from our intranet.
