Although I have no philosophical basis for not charging for travel time, I've never actually done it in practice. I do tend to charge for travel expenses however if I'm travelling multi-country.

Essentially I go with the theory that everything is negotiable and sometimes it is easier for the client's internal systems to charge for one thing or another, so I tend to roll with the flow.

I'm a big-headed bastard. I charge a lot and (in my modest way) deliver a lot. My pitch tends to be - "I'll solve your problem, though you have to pay me". I tend to work at director level and for me, it seems inappropriate to play penny games with personnel departments for what I was reading on the train.

This is of course, merely a post from my (current) position - I'm interested to follow the results of this thread!
