for the moment my problem seemed to disapear. I Think the diskspace was thought to be low. I had only 4.8 GIGABYTES left on an 80 gB drive) [boy, not long ago a 2 Gig drive was enormous!!).
Once I deleted some stuff the hangups went bye-bye (for good I hope)
