Gerry's idea may be a good idea for your situation, but here's something to keep in mind. If the individual files would be small, you will end up wasting a lot of disk space relative to the amount of data you are storing. For example, if you have a cluster size of 8K on the disk, every file will use 8K of disk space, even if there is only 50 bytes in the file.
You can regularly pack the memo file, but memo files shouldn't waste space in situations where records are not deleted, and where the the contents of the memo field does not change after the memo field has been saved the first time.
