Way back in 2.5 days, Mac Rubel reported a speed DE-crease when using "m." on the left side of an assignment, i.e.,

m.myVar=1 && slower
myVar=1 && faster

Probably this is because in this type of statement, Fox knows that the lvalue is always a memvar.
