>On a slightly related subject, there appears to be some surprise that many in Iraq are less supportive of the coalition than expected. When we go to war, we tend to support our leaders and military more and our war resolve strengthens. Why is it then that when military planners bomb Baghdad, Sarejevo, New York, Dresden, London etc., they believe that *the enemy*'s resolve WILL fall quickly?
There is some amount of debate here across the pond on why the Iraqis are fighting. Some are speculating that they are not yet convinced we mean business, and are afraid we will leave without removing him. There are some in the regime that are known as dead-enders: they know that if Saddam goes down, they go down with him. Some of also may be the fact that the another country is invading. Even if you hate your own government, you don't like being invaded.
Either way, the military says things are going according to plan.
