At one time there was a fairly active competition between HP3000 ans IBM AS400. IBM may have an anwswer for you for migrating the database. You can still develop desktop apps with VFP and have the power of an IBM mid size computer at your disposal. If I remember correctly the IBM solutions have more scalability than HP and are copetively priced. Rock solid, hardware, OS and support.
