>>What, then, are the main motives for the war, in your opinion? You seem to indicate that oil is one of them.

>Think it's not accurate to say "motives", rather to say "politics". It goes far beyond just oil.

So the U.S. already spends more on military than the next 15 countries - and it is not enough yet.

I am sure you realize that these huge amounts of money could be used for more useful purposes - education, health, etc.

Of course, this is not a problem merely of the United States - most countries in the World spend more on military than is good for them.

According to Bahá'u'lláh (19th. century), if the countries decide to settle their disputes, and fix, once and for all, their borders, a small army in each country would be enough, to maintain peace within their territories.

The Universal House of Justice adds that World Peace is not only possible but inevitable, and: "Whether peace is to be reached only after unimaginable horrors precipitated by humanity's stubborn clinging to old patterns of behaviour, or is to be embraced now by an act of consultative will, is the choice before all who inhabit the earth..." ("The Promise of World Peace", http://www.bahai.org/article-1-7-0-2.html).
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
