The actual order they were opened was the 1) table, 2) the view based upon the table, and finally 3) the AGAIN NOUPDATE. The NOUPDATE modifier is the difficulty here.

I chose, after spending considerable time attempting to understand these goings on, to work around all of this and open AGAIN NOUPDATE as necessary in the child form with the incremental search. Of course for use only in a purely incremental search one might choose to open it writeable.

I do kind of wonder if this issue occurs in earlier versions of VFP but the project has too much VFP 7 specific stuff to easily make that determination.
