Does the guest account exist on BOTH machines with the SAME password? Also try installing NetBui from the xp pro cd on the XP machine.

>Hi. I am having a problem mapping a password protected network drive that resides on Windows 98 machine in Windows XP. When I try to do this using Windows Interface, windows XP gives me a window with a disabled username (which is always guest). Then I type in a password for the share and when clicking on the connect button nothing happens. When I try to map the drive by using a "connect using different user name" option, then when typing a bogus information for the user name with a correct password for the share, win xp connects to the drive. I can also connect when I use the "net use" program from dos with persistent set to yes. There is another problem, however, when I restart the computer, win xp informs me that it cannot automatically reconnect to the network drive. I have to manually reconnect it by double clicking on the x-ed out network drive and again submitting the bogus user name with a correct password. Any help is appreciated.
