Hi Paul.
>We just upgraded to the latest version of SDT. The new version wants to upgrade the existing metadata of my DBC's (which isn't suprising), but I'm a little hesitant to let it until I understand all the implications. We have a bunch of apps. out in the field that use the SDT metadata/classes to upgrade the client's database(s). If I upgrade the metadata to version 6.1, will I need to upgrade/recompile these apps. w/the latest version of SDT (I'd guess "yes"). I'm not planning on using autoinc, if that makes a difference.
Yes, but you likely would only ship the updated meta data to the client when you have a change in the app, at which point you'd rebuild the EXE with the updated SDT classes. That said, the only difference in the meta data structures are that two new fields, NSTEPVALUE and NNEXTVALUE, were added to COREMETA.DBF to support auto-inc fields. So, even if you do ship an updated copy of the meta data to the client and not the updated SDT classes, no harm is done since SDT will ignore those new fields.
