One story we are hearing about the citizens of Basra is that in 1991 they rose against the Iraqi government and were expecting help from the United States, which never materialized. Many were killed for their actions against the regime.

Today the citizens of Basra are more than cautious about liberation and rising up against their government. Somehow I feel that because of the way Basra was treated in 1991, the British were sent into that area rather than the United States troops.
