>I just ran across the _crypto.vcx that comes as part of the VFP Foundation classes. I was just wondering how good of security that offers. I realize that part of the security has to do with how good of a key one comes up with, but in general, is this a pretty good option for encryption or are there better options out there? (Free options are always nice.) 8?)

Bob already gave you a good answer. You should have no problems if you set all your users to use the same encryption and CSP.

The Windows CAPI gives you strong encryption. VFP 7/8 come with a good sample in the FFC.
For more info, you could also look at my article in CoDe Magazine on March 2002: "Understanding the CryptoAPI", (also available for subscribers on DevX), and also look for some back messages here in the UT.
