I agree that you need to encrypt the column (field) and not the table.

Sorry about my English... What I'd like to say was that you can use cryptor and then crypt the table... or, if you don't use cryptor, you can create our own routine where you can crypt the column (of couse, using something good, not just change a character for other...). Also, checksum to make your protection stronger... ;-)
