>I dislike rationalizing why we as a nation do anything but it is reality. For decades there was an open dialogue in our country about the United States as “World Policeman”. Many voices in high places were against it. From time to time we would intervene into the affairs of other nations for whatever reason. Our track record as we know is spotty at best. I do not think there is an answer to this that will please everyone.

I agree. I >really< would like to let everyone live the way they want to. I'm a Libertarian at heart. However, there are cases (too many, I'm afraid) where national interest, security, human rights, etc. compel us to act. Even when we don't want to, and even when those decisions won't make us any friends.

These discussions feel like those cases of spousal abuse you hear about. Some guy is beating up on his wife/girlfriend in public. Someone asks, then physically stops that person from continuing the abuse. Then the spouse attacks the person who intervened for getting involved and beating up their husband/boyfriend.

Some people would make the decision to not get involved at all. I think you need to, even if the person you are trying to protect doesn't appreciate it. I'm sure no amount of debating will change their opinion, as no amount of debate will change mine.

>I must admit that I have had to make such a choice and chose number 4. Not everyone will agree with me but that is life. You cannot please everyone.

Absolutely. By trying to please everyone you'll only succeed in pleasing no one.
