The ping command (from command prompt) uses a protocol called ICMP; Microsoft's website and others (apparently weather.com) blocks ping requests using ICMP to reduce traffic. internetCheckConnection() call works properly on microsoft.com and weather.com.

I don't know if your firewall could interfere, but I doubt it.

Are you using the full URL? "http://www.weather.com"
