I don't know of any books but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I have never made tax an independent business object but that doesn't make it right or wrong to do that. The questions you are asking are questions of design and YOU need to make YOUR design because you have to work with your design. If you put too much importance on other people's designs you will be constantly asking questions for the rest of your career because you won;t understand the design.

That initiative and make your own design based on what you know now and run with it. You will find that along the way you alter the design as you learn, that's ok. After a few years you have a design that has settled down and is stable.
