Thre's no good reason to use public variables in VFP in the first place. See http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~VFPMisusedAndAbused~VFP and http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~PublicAndPrivateVariables~VFP.
Now back to you problem. I don't believe that PC hardware is responsible for that but it hard to diagnose the problem w/o additional info.
