Heya - A.
two approaches here - let's at least agree that 'file server type arrangement', at this point, does not mean you will be doing things with VFP programming.
1. use SAMBA to enable NT-LIKE drive shares. Store your VFP database and tables and executble all on the Linux server, inside the samba share.
assumption - still WINTEL client machines running your app, and the app and its data are stored on a samba share mounted on the linux box.
2. you need the VFP app to run in xWindows? It does so very well utilizing WINE [contrary to everyone else's post back to you who says it doesn't, or there are issues]. You will need the latest set o code for WINE, however - two major bugs have been fixed. Did you use any active X controls in your VFP app? it will be a trial/error thing - better tell your client you are gonna have to switch them into research/development mode.
