I use VFP7 for the front-end and SQL Server for the back end. I am intersted in learning how to create a trigger event in SQL server (actually, I know how to create a trigger), when a field changes (specific field) to send a text message to a pager.

The application is a hospital information system, so when a case is delayed, or patient moved, I want to send a message to the surgeon on the case. I don't know much about any telephony stuff. Each site (we have 27 different sites right now) would have it's own telephone system. Each doctor has his/her own pagers.

My basic idea would be that when the tiggers fires, I somehow call a vfp created dll on the sql server passing it the message and number to dial. I assume that the server would have to have a modem (couldn't somehow use the internet) which isn't a big deal (just one more thing to not work).

If anybody has experience, tools, links, information, ideas, etc... please let me know.
