I am plugging along anyway because I firmly believe we should just upgrade all the way, but I am finding it hard and a lot of the really cool stuff is just falling onto deaf ears because of the reasons I stated above. Any ideas on how to get through???? :-)

Understand. How about improved productivity? The Toolbox let's you organize you development classes and more in a way that wasn't possible to prior. Improved XML capability, allowing easier development of Web Services than before. A much improved InstallShield version. In 7.0, the version that shipped with VFP required that a previous version of an application be unistalled prior to upgrading. This is no longer required. Structured error handling via TRY...CATCH...FINALLY. Greater stability. No more "faking" collections by using arrays.

This is just off the top of my head. Does it help?
