>Oregon is a diverse state which can go either Democrat or Republican in presidential elections and which I think has a congressional delegation representing both parties. You could call it a "swing state", falling about in the middle. The backwoods of Oregon are probably very conservative. Places like Eugene and parts of Portland would be more leftist. Some notable moderate Republicans have come from Oregon. It used to have chronically high unemployment, due to declining timber production or greater automation (I think). States with high unemployment are always ready to vote against incumbents for president, no matter which party.

>Other notable things about Oregon: 1) my Mother graduated from the University of Oregon and 2) I will be in Klamath Falls, Oregon in a month, for vacation.

Bret;

There is a great Mexican Restaurant in Klamath Falls. Outstand food and Flan! We will be in Oregon perhaps in June this year, to visit Ukiah, where my dad grew up. I was stationed at Condon Air Force Radar Site, and had buddies at the Klamath Falls Radar Site. My manager just retired and moved to La Grande where he owns a Bed and Breakfast. We may retire in Oregon - I love the area! :)

Tom

P.S. Gas in Doris, California (hi way 97), which is near Klamath Falls was about 50 cents a gallon more expensive last year when we were up there. People in Doris drove to Klamath Falls for gasoline! :)
