I doubt you'll be able to get any sort of auto-refresh going (although I'd love to be proved wrong).

But Visio makes a dandy automation server. I'd probably write a program that auto-creates the diagram from scratch and just run that whenever he wants an updated diagram.

The toughest part of the job will be learning the Visio object model. It's *huge*.
