I know I went through this a couple of years ago, writing my one and only Access application for an end user, and the question came up, as to him being able to resell the software to someone who did not have Access installed, and to hide the source code.
I'm faced again with issue, I need to put together an application that has to be able to read and write a single Access table. However, the structure of the table can change every time the program is used,and in fact tere can be many tables, but only accessed one at a time. THe application wil be sold at a low cost, and I of course hope to sell hundreds of thousands of copies.
I have two options:
1. Write it in VFP and do whatever is required to update the Access table from there. Downside - I have to learn how to be able to read Access tables without knowing the structure in advance. Preferable, cause I hate programming in Access.
2. Get whatever I need to be able to write the program in Access and distribute the application as an EXE. Disadvantage: I don't want to spend any one on buying an Access upgrade, since this is a high risk venture that I only wnat to invest my time in. Advantage: I may need to add other tables, and may want to allow th user to play with them, if he has Access installed.
