I have it all the time. The following, either from a datetime or date field, generates some extra spaces between the 4 digits of the date and the letter A when being printed:
SELECT LTRIM(RTRIM(STR(YEAR(AddDate)))) AS lcChampNumero FROM News
? lcChampNumero+'A'
