E-commerce is very wide term.
Everyting depend how many hits per hour you will have.
In some B2B solutions you should pay more attention to security, than to how many hits per hour you have.
Depend on solution you first should pay attention to connection, which you will have.
The lowest requirements are Server with 1 P4 CPU, 1GB RAM and 70MB SCSI HDD.
But may be you will need at least 4 CPU Itanium , 16/32 GB RAM, RAID, SAN, 1Gbps LAN,....
